Varanasi Province of the Indian Ministry of Society (IMS) has embarked on a groundbreaking project titled “Making Slum Women Self-Dependent,” aimed at empowering women and girls in the slums to achieve self-reliance and financial independence. With a clear focus on skill development and entrepreneurship, the project seeks to uplift marginalized women and catalyze positive change in their lives and communities.

The primary objectives of the project are twofold: to motivate women and girls in the slums to become self-dependent and to provide skill development opportunities to 90 women and girls from these communities. Through targeted interventions and support, Varanasi Province aims to equip these women with the tools and resources they need to build sustainable livelihoods and break the cycle of poverty.

The project offers offering training and support in various income-generating activities, including domestic work, street vending, and tailoring, Varanasi Province aims to empower women to create their own businesses and become agents of change in their communities. With an expected outcome of 90 women entering into income-generating activities, the project not only promises to provide steady income for these families but also to bring stability and upward mobility to their lives.

As these women and girls gain new skills and opportunities, Varanasi Province anticipates a ripple effect of positive change throughout the slum communities. By fostering economic empowerment and self-reliance, the project aims to create a pathway to a brighter future for underprivileged women and their families, ultimately contributing to the overall development and well-being of Varanasi Province as a whole.
